Objective: Gender Identity Disorder (GID) or transsexualism is characterized by a
strong and persistent sense of inappropriateness of biological sex in given
individuals. Understanding, preventing and treating of this psychological disorder
provides a serious challenge for clinicians. In order to better understanding of
GIDs, the aim of the present study was to compare interpersonal problems
between three groups including transsexuals after sex reassignment surgery
(SRS), transsexuals before SRS and normal individuals.
Method: Thirty five Male-to-Female (MF) transsexuals (20 transsexuals before SRS,
15 transsexuals after SRS) and also twenty normal females participated in this
study. All participants were asked to complete the Inventory of Interpersonal
Problems (IIP-60).
Results: The results revealed that the higher average scores in dimensions of
interpersonal problems belonged to transsexuals before SRS, transsexuals after
SRS and normal individuals, respectively. The difference between transsexuals
after SRS and normal individuals was not significant in interpersonal problems
scales.
Conclusion: Based on these results, one can conclude that sex reassignment surgery
might reduce interpersonal problems of transsexuals.

Objective: Since attention of the elderly is progressing rapidly in developing
countries in recent years, special attention to wisdom as an effective ability is
necessary. The relationships between wisdom and mental health in Iranian
elderly were examined in this study.
Method: In a descriptive-analytic study, 114 older adults (61 males and 53 females)
were selected by available sampling method and completed the Three-
Dimensional Wisdom Scale(3D-WS) and General Health Questionnaire (GHQ).
Data was analyzed through descriptive statistics, correlation coefficients and
regression analysis.
Findings: Results confirmed significant relationship between components of wisdom
and mental health in sample group.
Conclusions: Results indicate that Wisdom is a reliable predictor for mental health
in elderly population. Among the three wisdom dimensions (cognitive
dimension, Reflective dimension , affective dimension) were predictors of
general health.

Objective: Unfortunately one of the diseases in the present century, which affects the
youths particularly the young girls and women, is the multiple sclerosis (MS).
Given numerous numbers of MS patients and importance of identifying effective
acts to promote their Mental Health, this study accomplished to review the
association between the five factors of personality, Alexithymia and the Mental
Health of MS patients.
Method: This descriptive study selected 218 MS patients with simple random
sampling method (157 females and 61 males). In Lorestan Province, Iran. The
measurement tools were employed included: 1. Demographic Questionnaire; 2.
the NEO Five-Factor Inventory- Revised (NEO-FFI-R) 3. the alexithymia
Inventory, and 4. General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28). In this study,
Multiple Regression Analysis and Pearson Correlation Test have been adapted
for data analysis.
Results: The results indicated that some variables such as neuroticism,
conscientiousness, difficulty describing feelings and difficulty identifying
feelings are significant predicators for Mental Health in those who suffered from
MS.
Conclusion: These findings indicate that, personality and Alexithymia are almost
influential factors on MS patients’ mental health. Findings also has important
implications on the education and mental health’s improvment of MS patients.

Objective: Current study was conducted in order to investigate the relationship of
religious orientation and death attitudes with quality of life and somatization
symptoms in women.
Method: Whole women, lived in Urmia in spring 2012, comprised statistical society
of this study. 140 women, who had been selected randomly by multistage cluster
sampling method, responded orderly to the questionnaires of religious orientation,
attitudes toward death, quality of life and somatization symptoms .Collected data
were analyzed by Pearson correlation and regression tests.
Results: The results showed that quality of life has a positive correlation with internal
religious orientation and the attitudes of approach acceptance toward death.
Somatization symptoms also related positively to the attitudes of avoidance of
death and escape acceptance. Furthermore results of regression analyze showed
that 14 percent of women’s life quality variance was explained by internal
religious orientation and the attitudes of avoidance of death. Regression of
somatization symptoms based on religious orientation and attitudes about death
was not significant.
Conclusion: This results reveal religious and spiritual bases and consequently the
death attitudes as one of the effective variables on the women quality of life and
their health.
